In our fast-paced world of 2023, prioritising our mental health has never been more important. While there is ample discussion about mental health in our personal lives, it is important to recognize the significance of mental well-being for leaders.
Our ability to navigate the challenges and lead effectively is deeply intertwined with the quality of our mental health at that time.
For me there are three key reasons why prioritizing mental well-being is never been more essential for leaders in any field.
1) Decision Making:
When our minds are clear and focussed we can make fast, calculated decisions that propel us and our organizations forward. Prioritising our mental well-being gives us the very best chance of keeping our decision making process sharp and effective which is a crucial element of success for any leader and organisation.
2) Strong Relationships and Networks:
Nurturing mental well-being is foundational for building and maintaining strong relationships and networks. When leaders prioritise their mental health, the ability to approach interactions with colleagues, clients and our community with empathy, trust, and respect is greatly enhanced.
These positive relationships foster collaboration, support, and growth, usually creating an environment that encourages innovation and drives success.
3) Productivity:
Leadership should not be measured by the hours our teams work, but by the productivity achieved within those hours. Mental well-being plays a pivotal role in boosting productivity in the workplace.
If leaders prioritising their own self-care, stress management, and focus on healthy habits, energy levels, focus, and creativity are a significantly improved. A healthy mind allows us to tackle tasks more efficiently, maintaining our motivation, and inspiring our teams
By investing in our own mental health, we not only help our personal lives but also help unlock our full leadership potential. Our decision-making becomes sharper, relationships improve, and productivity soars. Isn't it our responsibility as leaders that we first focus on ourselves to give our organisations their best chance.
