5 Key Resilience lessons?

June 19, 2023

Completing my 24 Hour Walk for Youth Mental Health in March 2023 watch here has sparked numerous questions about what I gained from the experience and most often the answer is my new learnings around resilience and how it has most impacted me.

It led me to deeper reflections on resilience as I was lucky enough to be able to test my own resilience through this self-imposed challenge. This has inspired a new workshop in partnership with BREED Australia called the "The Resilience Roadmap." and I thought I would share The 5 key lessons I will be discussing in the workshop.

1) Trials and tribulations are inevitable; misery is optional.

Resilience demands that we need to expect the unexpected. Being adaptable, and accepting that we can only control our responses to life's circumstances, is the only mindset we can have if we are to remain in control of our resilience in success.

2) We can often let the wrong internal decision-maker guide our choices, hindering our resilience.

During the extreme walk, my body continued to ask me to quit, but the part of my mind where resilience lives was able to resist this temptation ( just). It's empowering to understand that our minds can shape our outcomes and our responses, allowing us to accomplish nearly anything we set out to do.

3) Maintain joy and laughter in life, as they make every struggle feel smaller.

When we lose joy, our resilience often crumbles. If we can maintain passion, joy and laughter this is the real backbone for our resilience.

4) Things are rarely as good or bad as they seem.

Making sure that our perspective is balanced prevents excessive celebration or self-criticism, fostering long-term focus with self-compassion alloes a mental balance that is really a key component of resilience.

5)Avoid making fear-driven decisions.

Don't miss out on great opportunities due to fear influencing your decision-making and impacting your resilience. Are you letting fear lead and drive your decision making away from your areas of passion and success?

Do you agree or have additional resilience concepts to share? I'd love to hear your thoughts.....To learn more about my post-walk endeavors, come visit me at the Resilience Roadmap Workshop   or www.chrisbarton.com.au
